ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code in the context of the user running the affected software, potentially leading to full system compromise. Alternatively, it may cause a denial of service via application crash.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Disable or uninstall Flash Player and AIR where possible, or restrict execution to trusted content. Employ browser and endpoint security controls to limit exposure to Flash content from untrusted sources.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Adobe Flash Player to version 18.0.0.203 or later, and Adobe AIR (including SDK and Compiler) to version 18.0.0.180 or later. Adobe has released security updates addressing this vulnerability.
