Blind XXE in Apache Jackrabbit privilege loading
CVE-2025-53689 is a blind XML External Entity (XXE) vulnerability affecting Apache Jackrabbit components jackrabbit-spi-commons and jackrabbit-core before the fixed releases. The issue is caused by use of an unsecured XML document builder when loading privileges, allowing external entity resolution during XML parsing. The available content specifically describes the flaw as occurring in the privilege-loading code path and characterizes it as a blind XXE, indicating exploitation may rely on out-of-band interactions rather than direct in-band disclosure. Affected versions are Apache Jackrabbit versions prior to 2.20.17 on the Java 8 line, prior to 2.22.1 on the Java 11 line, and prior to 2.23.2 on the Java 11 beta line.
