Stack-based Buffer Overflow in Tenda FH1201/FH1206 /goform/webtypelibrary

IdentifiersCVE-2025-14994CWE-121· Stack-based Buffer Overflow

CVE-2025-14994 is a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in Tenda FH1201 and FH1206 routers, specifically in firmware versions 1.2.0.14(408) and 1.2.0.8(8155). The vulnerability exists in the strcat function within the /goform/webtypelibrary HTTP request handler, where improper handling of the webSiteId argument allows remote attackers to trigger a buffer overflow on the stack, leading to memory corruption. Public proof-of-concept exploits are available, and the vulnerability is remotely exploitable.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to achieve memory corruption, which can lead to arbitrary code execution on the device. This can result in full compromise of the router, including loss of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Attackers may gain persistent access, control network traffic, or use the device as a foothold for further attacks.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate firmware updates are not possible, restrict remote access to the device, limit exposure of the web interface to trusted networks, and monitor network activity for signs of exploitation. Employ network segmentation and firewall rules to reduce attack surface.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Update the firmware of affected Tenda FH1201 and FH1206 routers to the latest version provided by the vendor. Apply all vendor-provided security patches addressing this vulnerability. Regularly check for firmware updates and security advisories from Tenda.
