Integer Overflow in Google Chrome V8

IdentifiersCVE-2026-2649CWE-190

CVE-2026-2649 is a high-severity integer overflow vulnerability in the V8 JavaScript engine in Google Chrome prior to version 145.0.7632.109. According to the provided content, a remote attacker can trigger the flaw via a crafted HTML page, leading to heap corruption in the browser process. The issue affects Chrome’s handling of attacker-controlled web content processed by V8, and the vulnerable condition is described as an integer overflow that can corrupt memory during JavaScript engine operations.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may cause heap corruption in the Chrome browser process, which can result in a crash, denial of service, information disclosure, security bypass, or potentially arbitrary code execution. Debian’s advisory notes that the Chromium issues addressed in this update could lead to arbitrary code execution, denial of service, or information disclosure, and the supplied GHSA-style summary specifically ties this flaw to potential browser process compromise.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure to untrusted web content. Practical mitigations from the provided content include restricting access to untrusted sites through URL filtering, disabling or limiting JavaScript where operationally feasible for high-risk users, and relying on additional host-level hardening such as OS sandboxing and EDR policy controls to reduce the impact of browser exploitation. No complete workaround is provided in the vendor advisory.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Google Chrome to version 145.0.7632.109 or later. For Debian Chromium, apply the vendor-provided fixed packages: upgrade to 145.0.7632.109-1~deb12u3 for oldstable (bookworm) or 145.0.7632.109-1~deb13u3 for stable (trixie), as applicable. Users should relaunch the browser after updating so the patched version is active.
