Information disclosure in SQLite zipfileInflate via crafted ZIP file

IdentifiersCVE-2025-70873CWE-200

CVE-2025-70873 is an information disclosure vulnerability in the zipfileInflate function of the SQLite zipfile extension affecting SQLite 3.51.1 and earlier. ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can disclose portions of process heap memory, potentially exposing sensitive in-memory data handled by the affected application. Based on the provided information, the issue is an information disclosure vulnerability; no direct integrity, code execution, or privilege escalation impact is established from the supplied content.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until patches are applied, avoid processing untrusted ZIP files through the SQLite zipfile extension, disable or remove use of the zipfile extension where not required, and restrict exposure of application features that accept attacker-supplied ZIP content. Where the vulnerable functionality is reachable remotely through an application workflow, limit network access to trusted users and inputs.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade SQLite to a fixed version later than 3.51.1 once available from the vendor or downstream product supplier. For affected downstream products, apply the relevant vendor security updates, including Oracle's June 2026 Critical Security Patch Update where applicable.
