Stored XSS in CI4MS Categories

IdentifiersCVE-2026-34567CWE-79· Improper Neutralization of Input…

CVE-2026-34567 is a stored cross-site scripting vulnerability in CI4MS, a CodeIgniter 4-based CMS skeleton. In versions prior to 0.31.0.0, user-controlled input associated with the Categories section is not properly sanitized during creation or editing of blog post content, and the stored data is later rendered without proper output encoding when Categories are viewed via blog posts. This allows an attacker to persist malicious JavaScript in server-side content and have it executed in other users' browsers when the affected content is displayed.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows execution of attacker-supplied JavaScript in the browser context of users viewing affected blog post/category content. Because the issue has scope changed and a CVSS vector of AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:L/A:L, likely impacts include theft of session data or other sensitive browser-accessible information, unauthorized actions performed in the victim's session, content manipulation, and limited availability impact in the affected web application context.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate upgrade is not possible, restrict access to create or edit blog posts/categories to only highly trusted users, review and remove suspicious category content already stored in the application, and implement server-side output encoding for all rendered category fields. Additional defensive measures such as a restrictive Content Security Policy may reduce exploitability or impact, but do not replace the vendor patch.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade CI4MS to version 0.31.0.0 or later, which patches the vulnerability. Ensure the fix includes both proper sanitization/validation of user-controlled category-related content on input and context-appropriate output encoding when rendering that content in blog post views.
