Authentication Bypass in Acer Connect W6x HTTP Authorization Handling

IdentifiersCVE-2026-49197CWE-287· Improper Authentication

CVE-2026-49197 is an improper authentication vulnerability affecting web endpoints intended for the Acer Connect application on Acer Connect W6x devices. The flaw is caused by incorrect validation of the HTTP Authorization header: when Base64 decoding of the header fails, the request is not promptly rejected and can proceed in a way that bypasses authentication checks. Acer’s advisory indicates the issue was addressed by improving handling of malformed Authorization headers so such requests are rejected rather than accepted. The vulnerability is remotely reachable over the network and affects protected web functionality exposed by the device’s application gateway/endpoints serving the Acer Connect app.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit malformed HTTP Authorization headers to bypass authentication on affected Acer Connect W6x web endpoints. Successful exploitation may allow unauthorized access to protected administrative functionality and, per the advisory context, could result in seizure of administrative control of the device. The provided CVSS v4.0 vector indicates high impact to confidentiality, integrity, and availability, including potential downstream impact to subsequent systems.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, reduce exposure of the affected web management/application endpoints to untrusted networks, restrict access to trusted administrative hosts or management networks only, and monitor for malformed or anomalous HTTP Authorization headers targeting Acer Connect application endpoints. These are compensating controls only; the authoritative fix is the vendor firmware update.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Update affected Acer Connect W6x devices to firmware version W6x_GBL_2.00.000008 or later. Acer states the fix improves handling of HTTP Authorization headers for endpoints serving the Acer Connect application so malformed requests are rejected instead of bypassing authentication checks. The update can be applied through the device management console at 192.168.76.1 via the system update function.
