Stored XSS to RCE in SiYuan Bazaar marketplace

IdentifiersCVE-2026-56397CWE-79

CVE-2026-56397 is a critical vulnerability in SiYuan before v3.6.1 caused by improper sanitization of Bazaar marketplace package metadata and README content. Malicious package authors can inject arbitrary HTML and JavaScript into package fields including displayName, description, and README. When a user browses the Bazaar marketplace, the injected content is rendered and triggers stored cross-site scripting. Because the application uses Electron with nodeIntegration enabled, the XSS condition can be escalated to operating system command execution, resulting in remote code execution on the client system.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an attacker controlling a malicious Bazaar package listing to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of users browsing the marketplace and, via Electron nodeIntegration, execute OS commands on the affected host. This can lead to full compromise of the client environment, including unauthorized access to data, arbitrary code execution, integrity loss, and service disruption.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, restrict or disable Electron nodeIntegration for marketplace-rendered content, avoid browsing untrusted Bazaar packages, and implement strict sanitization or safe rendering of package metadata and README content to prevent HTML/JavaScript execution.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade SiYuan to version 3.6.1 or later, which is identified as fixing the issue. Ensure Bazaar marketplace package metadata and README content are properly sanitized before rendering, and remove or restrict unsafe Electron renderer capabilities where possible.
