Buffer Overflow in Tenda AC23 formSetVirtualSer

IdentifiersCVE-2025-12595CWE-120· Buffer Copy without Checking Size…

CVE-2025-12595 is a remotely exploitable buffer overflow vulnerability in Tenda AC23 firmware version 16.03.07.52. The flaw is reported in the function formSetVirtualSer, exposed through the /goform/SetVirtualServerCfg endpoint. According to the provided description, improper handling of the argument list supplied to this function can trigger a buffer overflow condition. Because the vulnerable functionality is reachable over the network, a remote attacker can send crafted input to the affected endpoint and cause memory corruption. Public exploit code is reportedly available.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation can allow a remote attacker to corrupt process memory in the affected web management component of the router. Depending on exploit reliability and runtime conditions, this may result in denial of service or potentially arbitrary code execution within the context of the vulnerable service. Given that the flaw is remotely reachable and public exploit material is available, the vulnerability presents a significant risk to exposed devices.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Restrict access to the router management interface, especially the /goform/SetVirtualServerCfg endpoint, to trusted administrative networks only. Disable remote administration from untrusted networks and the public internet. Place the management interface behind network access controls, firewall rules, or VPN-only access. Monitor for unexpected requests targeting virtual server configuration functions and reboot or isolate suspected compromised devices pending firmware remediation.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade Tenda AC23 devices from firmware version 16.03.07.52 to a vendor-fixed release if one is available. If no patched firmware has been published, replace the affected device with a supported version or model that is not vulnerable. Review vendor advisories and release notes for corrected firmware addressing CVE-2025-12595.
