Out-of-Bounds Write RCE in Adobe Acrobat and Reader 3D PDF Parsing
CVE-2019-7118 is a critical out-of-bounds write vulnerability in Adobe Acrobat and Reader affecting versions 2019.010.20098 and earlier, 2017.011.30127 and earlier, and 2015.006.30482 and earlier. The issue is triggered while parsing embedded 3D PDF content handled through Adobe’s U3D support modules, with the vulnerable code path identified in the 2d.x3d component, specifically TRGB::Read(). The flaw occurs during processing of texture image data from crafted U3D content, where malformed size/structure values can cause writes past the intended buffer boundary. Public analysis indicates the crash occurs in the sandboxed process and can be reached via a malicious PDF containing crafted 3D content and texture resource declarations, including external image handling.
