Sensitive Payment Token Exposure via Permissions Issue in Apple OS

IdentifiersCVE-2025-46288CWE-269

CVE-2025-46288 is a permissions issue affecting Apple operating systems (visionOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS) prior to version 26.2 (or Tahoe 26.2 for macOS). The flaw allowed a malicious or compromised app to access sensitive payment tokens due to insufficient access restrictions. The vulnerability was reported by floeki and Zhongcheng Li from IES Red Team of ByteDance and has been remediated by introducing additional restrictions in the affected OS versions.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an attacker-controlled app to access sensitive payment tokens, which could be used to perform unauthorized financial transactions or steal payment information, leading to financial loss or further compromise of user accounts.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Until the patch is applied, restrict installation of untrusted applications and monitor for unusual app behavior. Employ application allowlisting and endpoint protection to reduce risk of exploitation.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade to visionOS 26.2, iOS 26.2, iPadOS 26.2, watchOS 26.2, or macOS Tahoe 26.2. These versions implement additional restrictions to prevent unauthorized access to payment tokens.
