Arbitrary code execution via malicious MCP configuration in Zed (< 0.218.2-pre)
Zed code editor versions prior to 0.218.2-pre load Model Context Protocol (MCP) configuration from a project-local settings.json located under the project’s .zed subdirectory. A malicious project can supply an MCP configuration containing arbitrary shell commands, which Zed will execute on the host system with the privileges of the user running the IDE. Exploitation can occur automatically when the victim opens the project in Zed, without additional user interaction.
