GitLab EE iterations API authorization bypass leading to private descendant group iteration data disclosure

IdentifiersCVE-2026-1080CWE-200

GitLab remediated an authorization issue in GitLab Enterprise Edition (EE) affecting versions 16.7 before 18.6.6, 18.7 before 18.7.4, and 18.8 before 18.8.4 where, under certain conditions, an authenticated user could access iteration data belonging to private descendant groups by querying the iterations API endpoint. The flaw results in unintended exposure of iteration data across group boundaries due to insufficient authorization enforcement on the iterations API for private descendant groups.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

An authenticated attacker could obtain iteration data from private descendant groups that they are not authorized to access (information disclosure) by issuing queries to the iterations API endpoint under the affected conditions.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate upgrading is not possible, restrict access to the iterations API endpoint to trusted users/roles and apply compensating controls such as network/API gateway access controls and enhanced monitoring for suspicious iterations API queries.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade GitLab EE to a fixed version: 18.6.6 or later (for the 16.7+ / 18.6 series), 18.7.4 or later, or 18.8.4 or later.
