Siri lock-screen authorization bypass via state management issue (macOS)

IdentifiersCVE-2026-20662CWE-863

CVE-2026-20662 is an authorization flaw in Siri on macOS that stems from improper state management. In affected versions, Siri can enter an incorrect authorization state while the device is locked, allowing an attacker with physical access to the locked device to view sensitive user information. Apple fixed the issue by improving state management, and reports it as resolved in macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 and macOS Tahoe 26.3.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Information disclosure: an attacker with physical access to a locked macOS device may be able to view sensitive user information while the device remains locked.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Reduce exposure to physical-access attacks until patching is complete by enforcing strong device lock policies (strong passcode/password), minimizing unattended access to locked devices (secure storage/handling), and applying organizational controls that limit physical access to endpoints.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply Apple’s security updates that include the fix: upgrade to macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 or macOS Tahoe 26.3 (or later) as provided by Apple security advisories (APPLE-SA-02-11-2026-4 / APPLE-SA-02-11-2026-3).
