Sensitive data exposure via insufficient log redaction in macOS System Settings

IdentifiersCVE-2026-20619CWE-532

The provided information indicates a logging issue in macOS System Settings where sensitive user data could be exposed due to insufficient redaction in logs. Apple addressed the issue by improving data redaction. The issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 and macOS Tahoe 26.3. An application may be able to access sensitive user data by reading or otherwise obtaining access to these insufficiently redacted logs.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

A local application may be able to access sensitive user data that is inadvertently recorded in System Settings logs due to inadequate redaction, resulting in unintended disclosure of user-sensitive information to untrusted or less-privileged code with access to the relevant log data.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Limit execution/installation of untrusted applications and enforce least privilege to reduce the likelihood of a malicious app being present. Where feasible, restrict access to system/application logs via enterprise/endpoint management controls to reduce exposure of any sensitive information that may be present in logs prior to patching.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade to macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 or later, or macOS Tahoe 26.3 or later, where the logging behavior has been corrected via improved data redaction.
