Remote Code Execution in Upsonic MCP Task Creation

IdentifiersCVE-2026-30625CWE-78

CVE-2026-30625 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Upsonic 0.71.6 affecting the MCP server/task creation functionality. Upsonic allows users to define MCP tasks with command and args values. Although the product implements an allowlist intended to restrict executable commands, certain allowlisted commands such as npm and npx still accept argument flags that can be abused to execute arbitrary operating system commands. The issue is therefore a command injection / allowlist-bypass condition in the handling of MCP stdio task configuration, where attacker-controlled arguments reach OS-level process execution paths. Maliciously crafted MCP tasks can cause arbitrary commands to run with the privileges of the Upsonic process.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows remote code execution on the host running Upsonic with the privileges of the Upsonic process. This can lead to full compromise of the application context and potentially the underlying server, depending on process privileges and surrounding environment.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Do not allow untrusted or low-privilege users to create or modify MCP tasks or stdio server configurations. Disable or strictly restrict MCP stdio/task creation features where possible. Do not rely solely on command allowlists that permit interpreters or package runners such as npm or npx. Isolate the Upsonic service from sensitive internal systems, run it with minimal OS privileges, and sandbox or containerize process execution paths to reduce blast radius.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade from Upsonic 0.71.6 to a version that fully removes the unsafe execution path or robustly prevents argument-based command execution through MCP task creation. The provided content only states that version 0.72.0 added a warning about Stdio servers being able to execute commands directly on the machine; it does not confirm that this version fully fixes the vulnerability. Because the documented change appears to be a warning rather than a complete remediation, additional vendor guidance or a confirmed security fix version is currently not available from the provided content.
