SSRF in GitLab Repository Mirroring

IdentifiersCVE-2026-12635CWE-918

CVE-2026-12635 is a server-side request forgery vulnerability in GitLab Community Edition and Enterprise Edition Repository Mirroring. It affects all versions from 8.3 before 18.11.6, 19.0 before 19.0.3, and 19.1 before 19.1.1. Due to improper URL validation during mirror synchronization, an authenticated user with Maintainer-role permissions could, under certain conditions, cause GitLab to issue requests to internal network resources via the mirroring mechanism.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows a Maintainer-level authenticated user to leverage the GitLab server as a proxy to access internal network resources that would not normally be directly reachable by that user. This can expose internal services and potentially sensitive information reachable from the GitLab host, and may enable further internal network reconnaissance or interaction with trusted internal endpoints.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

If immediate patching is not possible, restrict or disable repository mirroring where feasible, especially for users with Maintainer privileges. Limit the GitLab instance’s outbound network access to internal address space and sensitive services using egress filtering, firewall rules, or network segmentation. Review and constrain which destinations the GitLab host can reach during mirror synchronization.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade GitLab CE/EE to a fixed version: 18.11.6, 19.0.3, 19.1.1, or later. GitLab stated that self-managed customers should upgrade immediately. GitLab.com was already patched, and GitLab Dedicated customers required no action according to the vendor notice.
