Out-of-bounds Write in NVIDIA ConnectX and BlueField Command Interface

IdentifiersCVE-2025-23351CWE-787

CVE-2025-23351 is a critical memory corruption vulnerability affecting NVIDIA ConnectX and BlueField devices. The flaw is in the device command interface, where a local user with virtual function (VF) access can supply crafted input that triggers a write out of bounds. This out-of-bounds write can corrupt device memory and, if successfully exploited, may result in arbitrary code execution on the affected device. The available information indicates the issue is local rather than remotely exploitable.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation may allow arbitrary code execution on the affected NVIDIA ConnectX or BlueField device. Because the flaw is an out-of-bounds write in a command interface, exploitation can lead to memory corruption on the device and compromise of device integrity and availability, with potential for full control of code execution in the device context.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Where immediate patching is not possible, restrict or disable virtual function (VF) access for untrusted or unnecessary users and tenants, and minimize exposure of the vulnerable command interface. Limit local access paths that permit VF interaction until vendor fixes are deployed.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Apply the vendor-provided NVIDIA patches or fixed firmware/software updates for affected ConnectX and BlueField products as referenced by NVIDIA. Prioritize patching systems where virtual function access is exposed to local tenants or untrusted users.
