Group Belki is a financially motivated e-commerce threat group active in the 2024 exploitation of Adobe Commerce and Magento instances vulnerable to CosmicSting (CVE-2024-34102). The group chained CosmicSting with CNEXT (CVE-2024-2961) to obtain remote code execution, deploy server-side backdoors, and install payment-skimming malware on compromised online stores. Its tradecraft included maintaining covert access through concealed backdoors and processes masquerading as legitimate Linux kernel-worker processes. Group Belki was one of several distinct groups exploiting the same Magento and Adobe Commerce compromise pathway to monetize stolen payment data.

Implications CosmicSting targets a critical bug in the Adobe Commerce and Magento platforms. Bad actors use it to read any of your files, such as passwords and other secrets... Jun 11th: Adobe releases a fix for CVE-2024-34102... Jun 23th: Sansec discovered the first CosmicSting attacks in the wild... mass scanners were launched to scan and infect Adobe Commerce stores across the world.
Combined with another bug (CVE-2024-2961), attackers can also run code directly on your servers and use that to install backdoors... Aug 27th: Attackers combine CosmicSting with the CNEXT bug so they can run code on your server... Group Belki: RCE via exploit combo (CNEXT).

Escalating CosmicSting compromises by chaining with CNEXT for remote code execution, installing backdoors and persistent server-side footholds, while also injecting skimming malware.
Belki combines CosmicSting with CNEXT exploits to achieve remote code execution, plant backdoors, and inject skimming malware, often hiding in system files and processes.
Group Belki exploited the CosmicSting vulnerability and used CNEXT to install backdoors and skimmer malware on Adobe Commerce and Magento stores.
Group Belki chains CosmicSting and CNEXT vulnerabilities to install backdoors and skimmer malware on e-commerce sites.
