APT41 DUST is a tracked activity cluster associated with APT41, a China-linked espionage threat actor. The cluster has been observed conducting collection-focused intrusions that gather local system and database information, including through use of tools such as SQLULDR2 and PINEGROVE. Its tradecraft includes command-and-control over HTTPS, use of encrypted payloads that are decrypted and executed in memory, exfiltration of collected data to OneDrive, and post-operation cleanup through deletion of artifacts from victim systems. The observed behavior is consistent with stealthy cyber espionage operations emphasizing collection, in-memory execution, encrypted communications, cloud-based exfiltration, and defense evasion.
