darkworm is a cybercriminal actor known for advertising PamDOORa, a Linux PAM-based backdoor, on the Russian-language cybercrime forum Rehub. The tooling is positioned as a post-exploitation implant for Linux x86_64 environments and is designed to provide persistent SSH access through a trigger mechanism involving a magic password and network conditions. PamDOORa also captures credentials from legitimate users authenticating on compromised hosts and includes anti-forensic functionality intended to tamper with authentication logs and conceal malicious activity. Reported features include modular design, anti-debugging measures, network-aware triggers, and a builder pipeline, indicating a comparatively mature operator-oriented capability rather than a simple proof of concept. Deployment of the malware appears to require prior root-level compromise, making it a post-exploitation and persistence mechanism rather than an initial access tool. There is currently no confirmed evidence of real-world intrusions attributed to darkworm using this malware.
