Cyber Anarchy Squad (C.A.S.) is a pro-Ukraine hacktivist group active since at least 2022. It has primarily targeted Russian and Belarusian organizations, while later activity also affected entities in Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and Syria. The group conducts politically framed disruptive operations intended to impose operational, financial, and reputational harm, publicly claiming attacks and releasing purportedly stolen victim data through Telegram. C.A.S. has exploited public-facing applications, including Jira, Confluence, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft Exchange, for initial access. It uses web shells, remote-access trojans, reverse shells, PowerShell, public post-exploitation frameworks, and legitimate remote-management tools to execute commands, perform reconnaissance, transfer data, maintain access, and move through victim environments. Reported persistence methods include creation of privileged local accounts and autorun mechanisms. The group has also used credential-theft utilities, disabled or bypassed endpoint protections, and added security-product exclusions. The group has deployed ransomware derived from leaked builders and has participated in ClearWater ransomware activity with Hacking Cat. Its operations have also included destructive data wiping. C.A.S. collaborates or shares tooling, infrastructure, and victim access with other Ukraine-aligned hacktivist collectives, including Ukrainian Cyber Alliance, Hacking Cat, RUH8, RM-RF, DARKSTAR, Hakerskii Kit, 4BID, and Goffee. This ecosystem’s shared infrastructure and malware complicate attribution of individual intrusions.
