Unsafe is a ransomware-as-a-service operation active since at least late 2022 that employs double-extortion, combining file encryption with the threat of publishing stolen data on a leak site. The group resurfaced in 2026 after a period of relative dormancy in 2024 and 2025. Reported victimology indicates activity against organizations in the United States, Germany, India, and Brazil, with additional targeting references for Switzerland and France. Observed victims span financial services, information technology, health care, and business services. Unsafe has been associated with leak-site postings used to pressure victims and with claims of intrusions involving theft of internal corporate and employee data. Reported tradecraft includes initial access through exploitation of vulnerabilities, followed by disabling security controls and removing traces of activity to hinder investigation. The group has been described as using malware associated with the cybercrime ecosystem and operating under an affiliate-based ransomware model. High-confidence reporting supports its role as an extortion-focused ransomware actor rather than a state-directed espionage group.
