TAG-182 is an Iran-nexus cyber-surveillance cluster associated with the deployment of MarkiRAT against Farsi-speaking users inside and outside Iran. Its activity is consistent with domestic monitoring and repression targeting dissidents, activists, and diaspora communities. TAG-182 has used trojanized VPN, media-player, and utility software as lures to induce malware execution. MarkiRAT supports screenshot collection and data exfiltration over web-based command-and-control infrastructure. Observed tradecraft includes BITSAdmin-based payload retrieval, masquerading a malicious executable as a Windows system process, and task-based persistence. TAG-182 is distinct from Iranopasmigirim; no technical overlap beyond victimology has been established.
