Gambling Goblin is a Chinese-speaking cybercrime cluster active since mid-2025 that conducts gambling-focused search-engine manipulation and phishing operations. It has compromised Linux-based Apache web servers at Brazilian government, educational, commercial, healthcare, and media organizations. The group deploys custom malicious Apache modules that selectively reverse-proxy requests from trusted victim domains to attacker-controlled content, allowing fraudulent pages to appear under the legitimate domain while preserving normal site behavior for other visitors. The modules can remove browser security-policy headers, inject remotely hosted content, and cloak responses based on request and visitor attributes. Gambling Goblin uses fraudulent pages impersonating major application-distribution and retail brands to promote online gambling and sports-betting services. Its Linux toolset includes DownPro, ChUser, PasswordHarvester, AlphaAgent, oRAT, SSH credential-testing tools, and reconnaissance utilities. These tools support payload delivery, remote command execution, credential harvesting, service and process masquerading, persistence, tunneling, host discovery, file transfer, and SSH-based expansion. The group uses encrypted and memory-resident payload handling, artifact cleanup, timestamp modification, daily infrastructure rotation, and multilingual content to evade detection and scale operations. Gambling Goblin has been assessed as connected to the Earth Berberoka cluster, although this relationship remains an assessment rather than a confirmed aliasing.
