MoreEggs is a backdoor malware family used to gain access to targeted systems, steal credentials, and support ransomware activity. It is developed by the threat actor tracked as Venom Spider and is sold as malware-as-a-service. In the provided reporting, FIN6 (also known as Skeleton Spider) used MoreEggs in a recruitment-themed phishing campaign in which the actors impersonated job seekers on LinkedIn and Indeed, built trust with recruiters, and then sent professionally written phishing emails that contained no clickable links but instead instructed recipients to manually enter a URL. Those URLs led to cloud-hosted landing pages, including on AWS, that mimicked personal resume or portfolio sites and used traffic filtering and CAPTCHA to target human visitors and evade automated analysis. Verified visitors were then served a malicious ZIP archive containing the MoreEggs backdoor. The campaign targeted recruiters, and the reporting assessed it as part of FIN6’s broader shift from historic payment-card and point-of-sale intrusions in hospitality and retail toward wider enterprise-focused operations including ransomware.
