STAR Labs disclosed two authenticated command injection vulnerabilities in the Prolink PRC2402M router that allow arbitrary command execution as root on firmware version 20190909. Tracked as CVE-2021-35404 and CVE-2021-35406, the flaws affect the router's applogin.cgi and login.cgi handlers, where the sys_login1 function passes user-controlled input to the system shell without proper validation after a password hash check. In one case, the vulnerable path is triggered with api=app; in both cases, the ipaddr parameter is central to exploitation, and lang is also injectable in the applogin.cgi flow.
The disclosures say an authenticated attacker can send crafted POST requests to /cgi-bin/applogin.cgi or /cgi-bin/login.cgi and execute arbitrary commands with full device privileges. STAR Labs reported the issues to Prolink, which initially said a patch was available, but a bypass was then identified and submitted by researcher Daniel Lim before the vendor issued a final fix. The advisories also note that the router's lighttpd service processes the requests and that exploit payloads must use CRLF line endings to be accepted in the demonstrated attack path.

Prolink fixed the reported authenticated command injection vulnerabilities in the PRC2402M router on 2021-06-13 after reviewing the bypass.
On 2021-06-11, Daniel Lim submitted a bypass showing that Prolink's initial fix did not fully remediate the reported command injection issues.
On the same day it received the report, Prolink acknowledged the vulnerabilities and initially stated that a patch had been made available.
STAR Labs notified Prolink on 2021-06-10 about authenticated command injection vulnerabilities affecting the PRC2402M router, including flaws in applogin.cgi and login.cgi tied to sys_login1 handling.
