Chainalysis disclosed that an external attacker used what it described as “offensive agentic techniques” to gain unauthorized access to its systems and internal tools, exposing customer user IDs, full names, email addresses, and organization role labels. Based on its ongoing investigation, the company found no indication that the attacker accessed investigation content, transaction or query results, clear-text passwords, multifactor authentication secrets, or user session tokens. The attacker’s identity, entry point, exploited vulnerabilities, and number of affected users or organizations remain undisclosed, as does the extent of automation or human involvement.
Chainalysis notified all customers, engaged third-party cybersecurity experts, and began patching vulnerabilities while conducting a broader security review supported by large language models. It is determining which records were accessed for each affected organization. The exposed identity and role information could enable targeted phishing; the company urged users to watch for unexpected authentication prompts and enable two-factor authentication. Chainalysis said the incident is unrelated to the recent cryptocurrency theft involving Binance.
