Path Traversal in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View Machine Edition

IdentifiersCVE-2025-9064CWE-22· Improper Limitation of a Pathname…

CVE-2025-9064 is a path traversal vulnerability in Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk View Machine Edition (versions prior to V15.00). The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers on the same network as the device to delete arbitrary files from the panel's operating system. Exploitation requires the attacker to know the filenames of the files to be deleted. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of user-supplied input used in file path operations, enabling traversal outside the intended directory structure.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Successful exploitation allows an unauthenticated attacker to delete any file on the device's operating system, potentially leading to denial of service, loss of critical configuration or application files, and disruption of industrial processes controlled by the panel.

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Restrict network access to trusted hosts only, segment ICS networks, and monitor for suspicious file deletion activity. Employ network-level controls to limit exposure of affected devices. Where possible, use application whitelisting and file integrity monitoring.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Upgrade FactoryTalk View Machine Edition to version V15.00 or later, which addresses this vulnerability. Follow vendor advisories and apply all relevant security updates as soon as possible.
