Predictable YoSmart YoLink API endpoint URL derivation

IdentifiersCVE-2025-59452CWE-340· Generation of Predictable Numbers…

CVE-2025-59452 is a predictability issue in the YoSmart YoLink API (through 2025-10-02) where the API endpoint URL is deterministically derived from a device’s MAC address combined with an MD5 hash of non-secret information (including a key beginning with “cf50”). This design makes the endpoint derivation predictable rather than relying on a secret, enabling endpoint discovery/guessing based on obtainable device attributes.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Because the endpoint URL is derived from predictable/non-secret inputs, an attacker may be able to enumerate or predict device-specific API endpoints, which can facilitate unauthorized access patterns such as cross-account targeting and limited sensitive information exposure (per the advisory’s characterization; CVSS v3.1 5.8 with C:L impact).

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

Minimize exposure of the YoLink ecosystem services to the public internet; place devices/services behind firewalls and isolate control networks from business networks; use secure remote access (e.g., VPN) and keep remote-access components updated, consistent with the advisory’s general guidance.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.
