SimpleHelp Zip Slip Arbitrary File Upload Leading to RCE
CVE-2024-57728 affects SimpleHelp remote support software version 5.5.7 and earlier. It is a path traversal/arbitrary file upload issue caused by insufficient validation of file paths within uploaded crafted ZIP archives (zip slip). An authenticated SimpleHelp administrator can upload a malicious ZIP file whose archive entries traverse outside the intended extraction directory, allowing files to be written to arbitrary locations on the underlying host filesystem. The flaw can then be leveraged to achieve arbitrary code execution on the SimpleHelp server host in the security context of the SimpleHelp server user. Reported exploitation examples include planting malicious cron jobs on Linux or overwriting executables or libraries on Windows.
