Type Confusion RCE in Microsoft Office
CVE-2025-49702 is a Microsoft Office remote code execution vulnerability caused by access of a resource using an incompatible type (type confusion). Microsoft classifies the issue as Critical and maps it to CWE-843. The flaw can be triggered when Office processes a maliciously crafted Office file, leading to type confusion and subsequent code execution in the context of the user. Although labeled as a remote code execution vulnerability, Microsoft states the exploit is carried out locally after attacker delivery of the malicious file. Microsoft also confirmed that the Preview Pane is an attack vector for this vulnerability.
