DoS in Rockwell Automation ArmorStart LT via Achilles EtherNet/IP/CIP grammar tests

IdentifiersCVE-2025-9466CWE-400· Uncontrolled Resource Consumption

A denial-of-service vulnerability in Rockwell Automation ArmorStart® LT devices where execution of the Achilles EtherNet/IP and CIP grammar tests can trigger an unexpected device reboot. The reboot causes a temporary outage of the Link State Monitor for several seconds, resulting in loss of availability.

ANALYST BRIEF

Impact, mitigation & remediation

What it means. What to do now. Patch path, mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.

Impact

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.

Remote denial of service: the device can reboot unexpectedly and the Link State Monitor goes down for several seconds, disrupting network/link monitoring and device availability. CVSS v3.1 vector indicates availability impact only (A:H; C:N/I:N).

Mitigation

If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.

No product-specific workaround is provided in the content. Apply standard ICS hardening: minimize network exposure, ensure devices are not internet-accessible, place control networks behind firewalls and isolate from business networks, and restrict/segment access to EtherNet/IP (CIP) interfaces to prevent untrusted/fuzzing/test traffic from reaching production devices; use secured remote access (e.g., VPN) where required.

Remediation

Patch, then assume compromise.

Vendor advisory reference: Rockwell Automation advisory SD1768. The provided content does not specify a fixed version or explicit patch/remediation steps beyond the advisory reference.
