CVE-2007-2222 is a remote code execution vulnerability in the Microsoft Speech API 4 ActiveListen (Xlisten.dll) and ActiveVoice (Xvoice.dll) ActiveX controls as used by Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01, 6, and 7. The issue is described as multiple buffer overflows in these speech controls. A remote attacker can trigger memory corruption by causing Internet Explorer to instantiate a crafted ActiveX object and pass malicious input to vulnerable functionality, including the ModeName parameter to the FindEngine function in ACTIVEVOICEPROJECTLib.DirectSS. Successful exploitation can corrupt process memory and execute attacker-controlled code in the Internet Explorer process.
