CVE-2009-0824 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in Elaborate Bytes ElbyCDIO.sys driver (version 6.0.2.0 and earlier), as distributed in SlySoft AnyDVD, Virtual CloneDrive, CloneDVD, and CloneCD. The vulnerability arises from the use of the METHOD_NEITHER communication method for IOCTLs without proper validation of user-supplied buffers associated with the Irp object. This allows a local attacker to craft a malicious IOCTL call, leading to a denial of service (system crash) or potentially arbitrary code execution in kernel mode.
