CVE-2009-4324 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Doc.media.newPlayer method exposed through Multimedia.api in Adobe Reader and Acrobat. It affects Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x before 9.3 and 8.x before 8.2 on Windows and Mac OS X. A specially crafted PDF can trigger a stale object reference during processing of multimedia content, including cases using ZLib-compressed streams, leading to an exploitable memory access violation. Successful exploitation can corrupt process memory and redirect execution flow, enabling arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability was exploited in the wild in December 2009 and was incorporated into exploit kits.
