CVE-2013-0422 is a client-side remote code execution vulnerability in Oracle Java 7 before Update 11 involving multiple flaws that can be used to escape the Java sandbox. The issue affects execution of untrusted Java content, including browser applets and Java Web Start applications. Publicly described exploitation paths include abuse of the public getMBeanInstantiator method in JmxMBeanServer to obtain access to a private MBeanInstantiator object and then use findClass to retrieve arbitrary Class references, as well as a Reflection API recursion technique that bypasses a security check in java.lang.invoke.MethodHandles.Lookup.checkSecurityManager because sun.reflect.Reflection.getCallerClass does not correctly skip frames introduced by the newer reflection API. By bypassing Java permission restrictions, an attacker can execute arbitrary code on the target system. The vulnerability was actively exploited in the wild in early 2013 and was rapidly incorporated into exploit kits.
