CVE-2014-4148 is a remote code execution vulnerability in the Windows kernel-mode TrueType font parsing functionality implemented in win32k.sys. A crafted TrueType font can trigger memory corruption during font processing, allowing attacker-controlled code to execute in kernel context. The vulnerability affects multiple Microsoft Windows client and server versions, including Windows Server 2003 SP2, Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, and corresponding Windows RT releases. Observed exploitation delivered the malicious font through a Microsoft Office document, but the flaw resides in the operating system font-processing subsystem rather than Office itself. Reported exploit chains embedded shellcode in the font program section, used kernel-mode execution to inject a second stage into a privileged user-mode process, and then launched an in-memory remote access payload. The vulnerability was exploited in the wild in 2014.

A Windows TrueType Font (TTF) zero-day vulnerability used to deliver Black Lambert in a high-profile 2014 attack; significant because it was exploited in the wild by the Longhorn/Lamberts espionage toolkit.
A Windows TrueType Font (TTF) zero-day vulnerability used as an initial infection vector to drop the Black Lambert implant in a high-profile 2014 attack; described as complex and used in the wild, and patched by Microsoft concurrently with public reporting.
Windows kernel-mode TrueType Font (TTF) processing vulnerability in win32k.sys enabling kernel-mode code execution via a malicious embedded font (delivered in an Office document, but not an Office vulnerability).
A Windows kernel-mode zero-day referenced as used in a 2014 targeted attack with similarities to Duqu infrastructure; the report suggests it may also have been used to install Duqu 2.0.
