CVE-2014-5266 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in the Incutio XML-RPC (IXR) Library, used by WordPress before 3.9.2 and Drupal 6.x before 6.33 and 7.x before 7.31. The library fails to limit the number of elements in an XML document, allowing remote attackers to send specially crafted, large XML payloads that consume excessive CPU resources during parsing. This is distinct from CVE-2014-5265 and affects any application using the vulnerable IXR library.

This repository contains a single Metasploit auxiliary module (modules/auxiliary/dos/http/wordpress_xmlrpc_dos.rb) that exploits a denial of service vulnerability (CVE-2014-5266) in WordPress versions 3.5 to 3.9.2 (excluding patched versions 3.8.4 and 3.7.4). The module targets the /xmlrpc.php endpoint of a WordPress installation, sending large, specially crafted XML payloads via HTTP POST requests. These payloads exploit the XML entity expansion vulnerability in the XMLRPC parser, causing excessive memory consumption and potentially crashing the service. The module allows configuration of the number of requests and memory limits, and includes logic to fingerprint the server's memory threshold. The exploit is operational and can be used to reliably cause a denial of service on vulnerable WordPress installations accessible over the network.
