CVE-2015-1187 is a remote command injection vulnerability in the NCC service ping functionality of multiple D-Link and TRENDnet devices. The flaw is exposed through the ping tool endpoint, ping.ccp, which accepts the ping_addr parameter and fails to properly sanitize attacker-controlled input before passing it to an underlying system command. By injecting shell metacharacters or additional commands into this parameter, a remote attacker can cause the device to execute arbitrary commands in the context of the web management service. The vulnerability has been associated with in-the-wild exploitation against internet-exposed SOHO networking equipment, including use in malware propagation and router DNS-hijacking campaigns.
