CVE-2016-0167 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows Win32k kernel-mode driver affecting multiple Windows client and server releases, including Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2 and R2 SP1, Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2, Windows RT 8.1, and Windows 10 Gold and 1511. Available reporting identifies the flaw as a use-after-free in Win32k, specifically in Win32k!xxxMNDestroyHandler. The vulnerability can be triggered by a crafted local application and allows a local user to elevate privileges. It has been described as a zero-day in real-world operations and was incorporated into malware and post-exploitation tooling, including x86 and x64 exploit variants. The flaw is distinct from CVE-2016-0143 and CVE-2016-0165.
