CVE-2016-0762 is an observable timing discrepancy in Apache Tomcat Realm authentication implementations. In affected releases, when an authentication request supplied a nonexistent username, the Realm did not process the supplied password. Authentication handling therefore took measurably less time than it did for an existing username with an incorrect password, allowing an attacker to distinguish valid usernames through repeated timing measurements. Affected versions include Tomcat 9.0.0.M1 through 9.0.0.M9, 8.5.0 through 8.5.4, 8.0.0.RC1 through 8.0.36, 7.0.0 through 7.0.70, and 6.0.0 through 6.0.45.
