CVE-2016-2108 is a memory-corruption vulnerability in OpenSSL ASN.1 handling. In affected releases, i2c_ASN1_INTEGER can underflow its output buffer and perform an out-of-bounds write when encoding zero represented as a negative ASN.1 integer. Although normal ASN.1 parsing does not ordinarily create this negative-zero representation, a separate defect in d2i_ASN1_TYPE can interpret a large universal ASN.1 tag as negative zero. The combined flaws are reachable when an application deserializes attacker-controlled ASN.1 data containing an ANY field and subsequently reserializes it. Applications that parse and re-encode X.509 certificates are known to be affected.
