CVE-2016-5388 is an HTTPoxy vulnerability in Apache Tomcat CGI processing. When the optional CGI Servlet is enabled, Tomcat can propagate an attacker-controlled HTTP Proxy request-header value to a CGI script as the HTTP_PROXY environment variable. CGI applications using HTTP client implementations that honor this variable for proxy configuration can consequently route their outbound HTTP requests through an attacker-selected proxy. Affected upstream versions include Tomcat 7.0.70 and earlier in the 7.x line and Tomcat 8.5.4 and earlier in the 8.x line.
