CVE-2016-6302 is an integer-underflow vulnerability in OpenSSL TLS session-ticket processing. In tls_decrypt_ticket(), OpenSSL validates only a minimum ticket length before subtracting the selected ticket HMAC length. When a server is configured to use SHA-512 for session-ticket HMACs, its 64-byte HMAC length can exceed the length of a crafted short ticket, underflowing the ticket-data length. The resulting value is converted to a large unsigned size and used in HMAC processing, causing an out-of-bounds read. The issue affects vulnerable OpenSSL 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 releases; it was fixed in OpenSSL 1.0.1u and 1.0.2i.
