JBoss EAP Monitor RBAC Sensitive Information Disclosure
CVE-2016-7061 is an information-disclosure vulnerability in Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform role-based access control. In affected deployments, information designated as sensitive remains visible to authenticated users assigned the Monitor role. The issue can expose sensitive server-level information in domain-mode deployments.
What it means and what to do now: patch path, interim mitigations, and the assume-compromise checklist.
What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.
A user holding the Monitor RBAC role can obtain information that administrators explicitly marked as sensitive. This weakens management-plane access segregation and may disclose sensitive server configuration or operational data.
If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.
Until patched, restrict assignment of the Monitor role to fully trusted users and minimize their access to the EAP management interface. Review existing Monitor-role assignments and remove the role where it is not operationally required.
Patch, then assume compromise.
Apply the relevant Red Hat JBoss EAP security update. EAP 7 deployments should be updated to EAP 7.0.4 or a later supported fixed release; EAP 6.4 deployments should be updated to EAP 6.4.13 or a later supported fixed release. Back up the EAP installation and deployed applications before applying updates, following the applicable vendor update procedure.
