CVE-2016-8657 is a local privilege-escalation vulnerability in certain Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform packages. A service initialization configuration file was installed as root-owned but writable by the jboss group. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and earlier systems using legacy SysV-style init scripts, the JBoss service script sourced this configuration as root during service start, stop, or restart operations. A jboss-group member could inject shell content into the configuration and have it executed with root privileges.
