CVE-2017-0176, also known as EsteemAudit, is a remote code execution vulnerability in the Smart Card authentication code implemented in gpkcsp.dll on Microsoft Windows XP through Service Pack 3 and Windows Server 2003 through Service Pack 2. The flaw is a buffer overflow triggered during handling of Remote Desktop Protocol or Terminal Services authentication involving smart card functionality. An attacker can send crafted network traffic to a vulnerable target and corrupt memory in the affected component, leading to arbitrary code execution on the target system. Exploitation requires the target to be joined to a Windows domain and to have RDP or Terminal Services enabled and reachable.
