CVE-2017-0262 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Microsoft Office 2010 SP2, Office 2013 SP1, and Office 2016 related to processing of embedded Encapsulated PostScript content. The flaw is triggered when Office invokes the EPS rendering path and fails to properly handle objects in memory. Technical reporting associates the bug with a type confusion condition in EPS processing involving a forged procedure object used with the PostScript forall operator, allowing attacker-controlled operand stack manipulation. Observed exploitation used heap spraying, object forgery, information disclosure to recover module base information, and a ROP chain followed by shellcode execution. In documented attacks, the vulnerability was delivered through malicious Word documents containing embedded EPS content and was used by APT28/Sednit/Sofacy to execute code and deploy payloads such as GAMEFISH and Seduploader. The vulnerability is distinct from CVE-2017-0261 and was often paired with CVE-2017-0263 to escape the EPS rendering sandbox and obtain elevated privileges.
