CVE-2019-17571 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Apache Log4j 1.2 affecting the SocketServer class in versions through 1.2.17. The flaw arises because SocketServer accepts serialized log event data from the network and deserializes untrusted input without adequate validation. When the component is configured to listen for log data from untrusted sources, an attacker can supply a crafted serialized object stream and, if a suitable deserialization gadget chain is present in the application classpath, trigger arbitrary code execution. Log4j 1.x is end-of-life, and this issue remains a significant risk where the legacy SocketServer functionality is still deployed or embedded in downstream products.
